Is FaceBook really a necessary part of a retail or service provider’s marketing strategy? Well, let’s crunch a few numbers and see just what FaceBook has to offer us. According to the AP (Associated Press), in a May 1, 2013 article, FaceBook claims to have more than 1.11 BILLION active users each month. OK, enough number crunching!
On a much more person, albeit anecdotal, level, how many people do you know who use FaceBook? I’ll bet more do than don’t, if you are under 50 years old. I would even bet the over 50 crowd have a whole bunch of friends and colleagues on FaceBook, also.
Would I pass up an opportunity to market my business to 1.11 billion, worldwide? Would I pass up on being able to reach right into my local economy and pick out the very people I wish to market too? My answer to both questions is, “NOT ON YOUR LIFE!”

Is FaceBook just a passing fad? Maybe. Most hot items, on the web, are under constant attacks by would be competitors. FaceBook is no exception. Perhaps one day you or I will come up with the next great idea that whole world loves.
